MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic makes it possible to view statistics on network usage and
has it's focus on payment relevent information. The system is built up
completely modularly

Providers do offer today a broad range of
diffrent tariffs for broadband internet usage and it is obvious, that the goal of the provider
is to use this complexity to get as much money as possible. In the professional range, there
exist practically only two tariff types for network usage, flatrate and volume based tariffs.
The question, which volume tariff is the most fitting often can't be answered, because the user
doesn't know much details about his network consumption habbits. So many broadband users pay
more then they would need to, if they were aware of statistics about their volume consumption
habbits. MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic is able to show data about hosts contacted without
any request, nightly or when a screen server is running, so it can help to detect security leaks.
Value for network operators
MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic can answer, who consumed the bandwidth and what was it used for.
This is the basic information on how to improve network structures like new lines, cache equipment
or where to eliminate waste of bandwidth. With MZL & Novatech
TrafficStatistic it can be detected, how much volume was exchanged with the internet
for each machine in the intranet and can even cut these data for each intranet computer
by target hosts and services.
Value for owners of dedicated servers
Last not least it is possible to run MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic on an internet server
and be therefore able to see details about the traffic which the machine had. This can be usefull
whereever an internet server is not limited to a webserver and ftp protocol, where perfectly
detailed statistics on application level are available. For webservers running software, which
does not generate statistics on network usage itself, MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic can be
a valuable - sometimes the only - help to get more detailed data on network usage of such machines.
This is especially worthful when the owner of the server doesn't get statistics from the switch his
machine is connected to - if the switch is able to generate statistic data at all.
Adaption to the provider's accounting periods
MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic has an integrated an editor, which allows
the user to set billperiods to the accounting periods which are used by his provider to
charge him for network usage. The user is then able to
monitor his volume consumption over longer periods and is able to identify, if he is in
the optimal tariff for his usage habbits. Also, there is an icon displayed in the tray,
which shows always the volume consumption in the current period. This is especially useful
for users with a volume based tariff with a free volume included. The user is with this tray
icon always aware, how much volume is remainded before the limit is reached and he has to pay
for overvolume. This will allow the user to make such decisions on the fly like to download
a new set of CDs in next billperiod, because in the current billperiod the limit is already
almost reached and he would have to pay for overvolume if he consumes the volume today and not
a day or a week later.
Packet inspecting technics used
To reach this goal MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic service looks into each packet, reads the header
of the packets, aggregates the data, which are relevant for statistics in memory and writes
aggregated data to the harddisk of the machine where it is running.
Graphical user interface for Windows
When a user requests a report on these data, the graphical user interface MZL & Novatech
TrafficStatistic GUI sends a request to a permanently running report generator module,
which has an integrated http server. The report generator reads then the stored data,
generates the requested report information out of these data and sends a report in HTML
or XML format back to the TrafficStatistic GUI. The GUI uses then the user's Internet
Explorer to present the completed report to the user. The same technic is used to set
configuration options in the GUI and to show the current volume usage in the system tray.
Avalable modules
The base module is free for download and unlimited usage. It has a report included, which
shows statistics of network volume consumtion for diffrent periods and the top traffic
consumers for the current period. As plugins to enhance the base programs powerful functionality there are available more sophisticated reports at the moment - we expect
the catalogue growing rapidly. If you are missing a special enhancement, which might be possible

module free for download, which allows the Linux server Traffic Statistics to be accessed
and configured remotely with the WIndows GUI.
