After OpenVPN Released Version 2.0, Aventail Declares an IPSec Challenge with an Aggressive Trade-in Campaign for it's Smart SSL VPN Products

Shortly after the freely available SSL based OpenVPN released version 2.0 for it's multiple platforms on April, 17th 2005, Aventail declares IPSec a challenge with an aggressive trade-in campaign for it's smart SSL VPN product. While OpenVPN is freely available, Aventail does tell pricing information only on request. However, in a review of the small Aventail EX-750 7.2 on infoworld is mentioned a price of $6,995 USD for 25 concurrent users.

Aventail's press release:
Enterprises Can Trade in IPSec or Underperforming SSL VPNs for Aventail's Newly-Released Smart SSL VPN for All Remote Access and Get Up to $100,000 in Rebates

Aventail wants you to throw away your IPSec VPN solution for remote access. The leading SSL VPN technology company today launched an aggressive campaign, allowing prospective enterprises to trade-in their current IPSec or SSL VPN solution and receive 20% off the cost of new Aventail appliances, valued at up to $100,000.

This campaign comes on the heels of Aventail's latest platform release. The new Aventail Smart SSL VPN is a single solution for all remote access, providing universal application reach to even complex applications like VoIP with complete security and control. With this release, Aventail is the first VPN solution, IPSec or SSL, to guarantee secure communication to all resources, for both managed and unmanaged devices, with the most comprehensive clientless and client-based access options.

"We are so confident that our technology is far superior to any IPSec solution for all remote access that we are putting our money where our mouth is," said Sarah Daniels, vice president of marketing and product management, Aventail. "For companies that are not receiving the ease of access and management or level of security they need for all their user groups and devices, we challenge them to try the Aventail Smart SSL VPN."

While IPSec solutions are recognized for the ability to access all applications, the network layer connection does not provide the needed security or policy control for remote access. In addition, IPSec VPNs require a pre-installed client, which does not work for unmanaged devices or for remote access from kiosks or other Web-based access methods. Many SSL VPNs on the market are expanding application access but doing so with technology solutions that compromise security and control.

The Aventail promotion runs now through June 30, 2005. Interested companies need to simply download the IPSec Trade-in Certificate available on the Aventail Website: www.aventail.com. Prospects will be quickly contacted by an Aventail channel partner.
