Ixia Announces New Generation Layer 4-7 Testing Solution for Content-Aware Devices Ixia, a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, announced Tuesday the latest release (v 2.0) of IxLoad, a comprehensive solution to test the scalability and performance of content-aware devices such as load balancers, firewalls, proxy servers, email servers, and streaming media servers.
This release of IxLoad introduces a number of new capabilities including support for email protocols (SMTP, POP3), streaming protocols (RTP, RTSP) as well as customizable real-time statistics for a complete detailed analysis.
"Ixia's IxLoad is targeted at the manufacturers of content-aware devices and organizations deploying these devices who must rigorously test performance under realistic load conditions," said Sunil Kalidindi, product line manager for Ixia. "IxLoad provides a sophisticated and complex mix of real-world traffic to test how well these devices and services scale prior to deployment. Combined with Ixia's purpose-built hardware, IxLoad delivers a highly scalable and cost-effective test solution."
The email protocols (SMTP, POP3) allow users to emulate and quickly configure thousands of emails with complete control over the addresses and content, including the ability to attach files. This capability enables testing of security devices like spam filters, in addition to load balancers and firewalls. The streaming protocols, e.g., RTP, RTSP, make it possible for users to emulate various streaming media clients, such as Windows Media Player, Real One Player, and QuickTime, to measure the scalability of media servers.
Other key new features in this release of IxLoad include:
* HTTP cookie support enabling session persistence testing
* Support for DNS for all Layer 7 protocols
* Support for Direct Server Response (DSR)
* Full automation support using TCL API
* Enhanced reports in PDF format
IxLoad runs on Ixia's Application Load Module (ALM) and its family of TXS Ethernet hardware, which support a standard Linux TCP/IP stack allowing control over key TCP parameters. The IxLoad test system is easily scalable by adding more test ports in the same Ixia chassis.
