NetIntercept, traffic analysis system completely caching all network traffic for analysis now recognizes with version 3.0 SNMP traps - entry pricing at 9,900 USD Sandstorm's NetIntercept is a FreeBSD system with MySQL database delivered together with rack sized hardware to store recent network traffic completely and analyze it afterwards.
The traffic is stored in tcpdump format, so it might be analkyzed with various analyzers. If the traffic is non encrypted, the analyzing part of NetIntercerpt is able to look into commonly used protocols.
After leaving contact data, Sandstorm is willing to demonstrate it's product - free demo version is not aavailable for download.
For those able to afford it, Sandstorm's NetIntercept is an interesting and productive out-of the box alternative to the long process of setting up free open source tools like tcpdump, tcpreplay, ethereal and ngrep.
Here is Sandstorm's press release regarding NetIntercept:
Sandstorm Enterprises, Inc. has released NetIntercept® 3.0. The award-winning NetIntercept 3.0 contains many new recognizers and speed improvements and new hardware configurations that take advantage of SATA disk technology.
NetIntercept 3.0 includes features that increase its speed and interoperability with other network operations products. NetIntercept now recognizes SNMP traps sent from network equipment, and integrates trap detection with its automatic operations functionality. We have also achieved significantly faster capture and database creation times, and added audit logging to watch the watcher.
NetIntercept 3.0 also recognizes DICOM (important for HIPPA compliance), SIP, SLP (Server Location Protocol), SSDP, MSN Messenger, MPEG, MDNS, PPTP, WMF, X509, and XMPP protocols, giving NetIntercept the continuing ability to decode more types of traffic than other network forensic devices. The NetIntercept GUI is faster and easier to use with a new integrated Reports tab, customizable reports, and an Email View window. The Session List window now also lists “interesting events” that happened for the group of connections shown.
