Avvio Networks’ A1020G 10 Gigabit Optical Regenerator/Repeater with SONET monitoring and DWDM Reaches 200km without Dispersion Compensation

Avvio Networks’ A1020G repeater is an optical regenerator/repeater for OC-192 SONET or 10Gb Ethernet data streams at 1310nm, 1550nm, or DWDM wavelengths. It can also be used to convert 1310nm or 1550nm optical data to a DWDM wavelength on an ITU channel. The A1020G can leverage existing 1310nm equipment onto WDM wavelengths at a fraction of the cost of replacing the equipment.

Avvio Networks again re-affirmed its leadership in the 10 Gigabit data transport market with its A1020G-X extended reach OC192 SONET / 10Gb Ethernet regenerator with FEC encoding.

The A1020G-X’s extended reach covers spans up to 200km of SMF-28 fiber without external dispersion compensation. It is available with fixed or widely tunable DWDM interfaces.

“Our customers needed a cost-effective way to upgrade to 10 Gigabits without shutting down and re-tooling their network.” said Leo Goyette, founder and CEO, “Because the A1020G-X eliminates the need for expensive dispersion compensation in most networks, our customers can save thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars when upgrading to 10 Gigabits, without performance disruption.”

The A1020G is a 1RU device and is manageable via serial port, Telnet or SNMP. It can be configured as a network edge device or as an in-line regenerator. The A1020G can be used with Avvio Networks’ A1040 quad OC-48 to OC-192 multiplexer for a complete OC-48 to OC-192 network upgrade. The A1020G-X is currently in lab trials, with First Customer Ship expected early November.
